What you are paying for with Tempur#
Tempur's material is denser and slower-recovering than ordinary memory foam, and that density is the point: it moulds to the body more precisely, isolates motion almost completely, and holds its shape for longer than lighter foams. Denser foam softens less over years of use,3 so the premium buys longevity as well as feel. If you have slept on a Tempur and loved it, nothing else quite replicates it, and that is a legitimate reason to pay.
The trade-offs are the ones all dense memory foam carries, magnified. It sleeps warm unless you buy a cooling variant. It is slow to respond, which makes turning over and getting out of bed more effort; people with limited mobility often dislike it. And it is very heavy to rotate.
