Who the Simba Hybrid suits
The original Hybrid is the model that built the brand, and it remains the one we would point most Simba buyers towards. It is the point in the range where the specification stops feeling thin and before the price starts climbing steeply: 25cm deep, five layers, nine support zones and up to 1,900 Aerocoil® microsprings.
It suits back and combination sleepers, couples who want good motion isolation, and anyone who has found all-foam mattresses too hot or too slow to move on. Dedicated side sleepers and anyone who wants a plusher surface should look at the Hybrid Luxe; if back pain or a heavier build is the priority, the Hybrid Pro and its sprung base are worth the upgrade.
Construction and materials
Five layers, top to bottom: a soft knitted cover with a zip-off top; an extra-deep layer of graphite-infused Simbatex® foam; up to 1,900 conical Aerocoil® microsprings in a single layer; a stabilising open-structure CertiPUR® foam layer that adds airflow and structural support; and a nine-zone CertiPUR® foam base shaped to give firmer support under the hips and more give at the shoulders.
The step up from the Essential is real rather than cosmetic: nearly twice the microsprings, almost twice the zones, an extra core layer and 5cm more depth, for £200 more at double size.
Comfort and support
We score the Hybrid 8.7 for support and 8.8 for comfort. Nine zones is a meaningful number, enough to hold the hips up while letting the shoulders settle, and the deeper foam layer above the springs means the medium-firm feel arrives with cushioning rather than as a flat, hard surface. Combination sleepers get the responsive pushback that makes turning over easy, which is exactly what memory foam mattresses do badly.
It handles average and moderately heavy builds comfortably. Above roughly 18 stone, or for two heavier partners, the Pro's steel SupportCore™ base is the sturdier answer.
Temperature
Airflow is designed in at three levels: the open microspring layer, the open-structure core foam and the graphite-infused Simbatex® above the springs. Simba's own claim is that Simbatex® moves over five times more air than memory foam. In practice this is a mattress that should suit sleepers who run slightly warm; committed hot sleepers should look at the Pro or Luxe with the HeatRelease™ upgrade, which is not offered on this model.
Edge support and motion isolation
Motion isolation is a genuine strength, and the main reason couples keep buying Simba. Microsprings compress individually, so a partner getting up in the night registers locally rather than as a wave across the bed. Edge support is adequate rather than excellent: the foam perimeter compresses when you sit on the side, and the Pro is the model to choose if you sleep right up to the edge or use the edge for dressing.
