Who the Simba Hybrid Luxe suits
The Luxe is where Simba stops optimising for support and starts optimising for feel. It keeps the sprung SupportCore™ base from the Pro but adds a third microspring layer and a softer comfort layer, landing on a medium-to-plush surface rather than a medium-firm one.
That makes it our pick in the range for dedicated side sleepers, for lighter sleepers who find medium-firm mattresses unyielding, and for anyone who wants a hotel-bed surface without losing spinal support. Front sleepers and people with lower-back pain are better served by the Pro; if you want the softness and the maximum cooling, the Ultra is the next step.
Construction and materials
Nine layers across 31cm. The Stratos® cool-touch cover zips off; under it sits British wool infused with bamboo, which wicks moisture as well as breathing; then optionally the HeatRelease™ graphite strips; then Simbatex® foam; two layers of Aerocoil® microsprings arranged in thirteen support zones; a stabilising CertiPUR® core; an extra layer of up to 900 high-carbon steel microsprings; the SupportCore™ base of up to 1,000 pocketed steel springs; and a high-density foam base with a recycled-yarn cover.
Three separate spring layers above the base is unusual at any price, and it is what produces the Luxe's distinctive feel: soft at first contact, then progressively more supportive the further you press in.
Comfort and support
We score the Luxe 9.4 for comfort, the second highest we have given, and 9.1 for support. The softness is in the top few centimetres only, so the shoulder and hip sink into the microspring layers while the steel base holds the spine level. That is the combination side sleepers need and rarely get: pressure relief without the hips dropping out of alignment.
The trade-off is for front sleepers, who need a flatter surface to keep the hips from sagging, and for anyone whose back pain responds best to a firmer feel. The Pro is the better mattress for both.
Temperature
Bamboo and wool together handle moisture and heat better than wool alone, and they sit above graphite-infused Simbatex® foam, three spring layers and a cool-touch cover. This is a cooler bed than its plushness suggests, because plush usually means more foam and more trapped heat, while here it means more springs. The HeatRelease™ upgrade is available on top for around £149 to £199.
Edge support and motion isolation
The pocketed steel base gives the Luxe the same edge-to-edge support as the Pro, which matters more on a soft mattress: without it, a plush surface rolls you towards the edge. Motion isolation is excellent, with three independently compressing spring layers absorbing movement before it crosses the bed.
Durability, trial and guarantee
Steel spring layers hold their shape longer than foam under load, and there is a great deal of steel here. The 200-night trial and 10-year guarantee apply as usual. At 31cm, standard and even deep fitted sheets may not fit, budget for extra-deep, and expect a mattress heavy enough to need help rotating.
Our verdict
The Hybrid Luxe is the most enjoyable mattress in the Simba range to lie on, and the one we would recommend to side sleepers who can afford it. Its 7.2 value score is simply arithmetic: £1,799 for a double buys a lot of mattress elsewhere. Buy it for the feel, with the 200 nights as your safety net.
