About Sleepy Sheep

Buying a mattress online is confusing: hundreds of near-identical products, constant “sales”, and review sites that simply rank whoever pays the most. We started Sleepy Sheepin June 2026 to do the opposite: score every mattress on the same criteria, say plainly who it suits and who it doesn’t, and show you what it really costs.

Who reviews the mattresses

Every review and score on Sleepy Sheep is written by Alexander Bowman, our mattress reviewer, who spent twenty years in UK high street mattress retail. That means two decades of fitting real customers to real beds, hearing what they came back to complain about, and learning which models hold up years after the sale and which sag by the second winter.

That background is why our reviews cover brands we don’t earn a penny from as well as the ones we do: Alexander sold most of the big names on the high street, and knows how they compare in person, not just on a spec sheet. You can check his work history on LinkedIn.

How we test

Every mattress we review is tested hands-on, in three ways:

• Sleeping on it at homeover a run of nights, to judge what a showroom can’t show: how it feels after a full night, how it handles heat and how it settles in.
• In-store and showroom trials, in back, side and front sleeping positions, often next to competing models.
• Measurements of the things that are easy to overstate: edge support, motion transfer and temperature.

How we score

Each mattress is scored out of 10 for support, comfort and value, and the headline score is the average of the three. So far we have scored 42 mattresses from 6 brands. A cheap mattress can beat an expensive one, and often does on value. See how we score for what goes into each number.
