Who the Millbrook Serenity Luxury 6500 suits
The 6500 is Millbrook's flagship and the most luxurious pocket-sprung mattress we cover. It suits side sleepers who want deep pressure relief, couples who want a big, stable, cool-sleeping bed, and anyone buying a mattress to keep for ten years or more who prefers natural fillings to foam.
It is also, at current prices, better value than the Serenity Luxury 4750 below it. For most people, though, the Serenity 4500 delivers most of this experience for around £550 less on a double.
Construction
Every Serenity mattress shares the same chassis: Millbrook's ErgoZone 7 seven-zone spring layout, softer under the shoulders and hips and firmer under the lower back and legs; the Ultra Edge perimeter system with hand side-stitching; a Smooth-Tech tuft-free top, so there are no tufting buttons to feel; and a chemical-free Smooth-Flex four-way stretch cover. All are non-turn, so you rotate them head to foot rather than flipping. The models differ in spring count, the natural fillings on top and the depth.
The 6500 pairs 1,000 full-size pocket springs with 5,500 Comfonomic micro springs, the most in the range, under natural wool, cotton, silk and cashgora. It is 34cm deep.
Comfort and support
With 5,500 micro springs the comfort layer is extremely fine-grained: the surface follows the body closely, with deep give at the shoulder and hip, while the zoned full-size springs keep the spine aligned. It feels luxurious without the slow, enveloping sink of memory foam. Back sleepers and heavier sleepers should choose firm tension, which on a double is also £150 cheaper than medium at the time of writing.
Temperature, edges and motion
Two spring layers and natural fibres keep it cool and dry despite the depth. The Ultra Edge system makes the full width usable. Motion isolation is the best in the range: thousands of small independent springs absorb movement locally.
Returns, guarantee and delivery
Millbrook mattresses are handmade to order in Southampton, where the company has made beds since 1946, and carry a 5-year guarantee. There is no sleep trial: Laudsleep accepts returns within 30 days of delivery, but its returns policy excludes sale items, so check whether the price you are paying is a sale price before you buy. A 5-year guarantee is also shorter than the 10 years most bed-in-a-box brands offer, although a well-made pocket-sprung mattress with natural fillings typically lasts longer than its guarantee.

Our verdict
The best Millbrook and a superb handmade mattress, with the 5-year guarantee as its main weakness at this price. Buy it if you want the most cushioned, finest-grained pocket-sprung feel available; buy the 4500 if you want most of it for much less.
