Emma sells four mattresses in the UK under the Original name: the £309 Original Lite, the £529 Original, the £799 Original Pro and the £1,159 Original Elite (full double prices). Two models people still search for, the Luxe Cooling and the NextGen Premium, were dropped in October 2026. We have tested every one of them. This is which Emma to buy, what replaced the discontinued ones, and what each costs in the Black Friday sale.
The quick answer#
- Best for most people: the Emma Original. Medium feel, 8.8/10 overall and the best value score in the range (9.2). £423 for a double in the sale.

- Best if you sleep hot or want the most support: the Emma Original Elite. Support 9.3, the highest we have scored, with a cooling cover. £695 in the sale, which is 40% off.
- Cheapest: the Emma Original Lite at £278, for a guest room or a lighter sleeper.
- Wanted the Luxe Cooling or NextGen Premium? Both are discontinued; see below for the closest current model.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Emma Original Lite | Foam | 20cm | Medium | 7.6 | 8 | 8.3 | £309 | £278 (10% off) |

| Emma Original Elite | Hybrid | 28cm | Medium-firm | 9.3 | 8.9 | 8.8 | £1,159 | £695 (40% off) |
Emma Original Lite: the cheapest Emma#
The Original Lite is a 20cm, two-layer foam mattress: a comfort foam over a supportive base, with a breathable cover. It has the best value score we have given any mattress (9.4) because it comes with the same 200-night trial and 10-year warranty as the dearer models for £278. Its support score of 7.6 is the weakest in the range, so it suits lighter sleepers, children's and guest beds rather than an adult over about 14 stone sleeping on it every night.
Emma Original: the one most people should buy#
The Emma Original is a 25cm three-layer foam mattress: Airgocell® open-cell foam, memory foam and an HRX support base. It is a true medium that suits back, side and combination sleepers, with excellent pressure relief and the best motion isolation of the four. Like any all-foam mattress it sleeps warmer than a hybrid and its edges are only average. At £423 in the sale it is the best-value mattress Emma makes and our best overall pick on the site.
Emma Original Pro: the best for back pain#
The Original Pro swaps the memory foam for a layer of zoned pocket springs under the Airgocell® foam. That lifts the support score to 9, gives it noticeably firmer edges and better airflow than the Original, and makes it medium-firm, which is the firmness the clinical evidence favours for lower back pain. It is the Emma for couples, heavier sleepers and anyone with a bad back. Lightweight side sleepers may find it too firm at the shoulder; they should stay with the Original.
Emma Original Elite: the most support and the coolest#
The Original Elite is Emma's 28cm flagship: a taller zoned spring unit, graphite-infused foam that conducts heat away from the body, and a cooling cover. It scored 9.3 for support, the highest of any mattress we have tested, while feeling plusher on the surface than the Pro. It handles heavier sleepers and couples with ease. At its full price of £1,159 it is a serious outlay; in the Black Friday sale it is £695, only £136 more than the Pro, which changes the sums.
Emma Luxe Cooling: discontinued#
Emma dropped the Luxe Cooling in October 2026; its product page now redirects to the rest of the range. It was a 30cm hybrid with a cooling cover, graphite foam and open pocket springs, and our best-for-hot-sleepers pick. The closest current model is the Original Elite: it uses the same graphite-infused foam, pocket springs and cooling cover, and it scored higher for support (9.3 against 9.2). If you are shopping for cooling on a smaller budget, our cooling mattress guide covers the alternatives.
Emma NextGen Premium: discontinued#
The NextGen Premium Plus went at the same time; its page now redirects to the Emma Original. It was a 27cm all-foam mattress with graphite foam and unusually high support for a foam build (9), and our pick for couples who wanted silent motion isolation. The nearest all-foam replacement is the Emma Original. If you wanted the NextGen's firmer support, the Original Pro adds pocket springs and scores 9.
Emma Original vs Original Pro: is the Pro worth it?#
This is the comparison that matters for most buyers, because the two are £136 apart in the sale. The Pro is worth it if any of these apply: you have back pain, you share the bed and one of you sleeps near the edge, you weigh over about 16 stone, or you sleep hot. Otherwise the Original gives you the same pressure relief and better motion isolation for less.

Frequently asked questions#
Which Emma mattress is the best?#
For most people the Emma Original: a medium all-foam mattress with excellent pressure relief and the best value in the range. The Original Elite has the highest scores for support and cooling, at a higher price.
What is the difference between the Emma Original and the Original Pro?#
The Pro replaces the Original's memory foam layer with zoned pocket springs. It is medium-firm rather than medium, supports better to the edge, sleeps cooler and costs £136 more in the sale.
Has the Emma Luxe Cooling been discontinued?#
Yes, in October 2026. The Emma Original Elite is the closest current model, with the same graphite foam, pocket springs and cooling cover.
What replaced the Emma NextGen Premium?#
Nothing directly. The refreshed Emma Original is the nearest all-foam model, and the Original Pro is the choice if you wanted the NextGen's firmer support.
Which Emma mattress is best for back pain?#
The Original Pro. It is medium-firm with zoned pocket springs and scored 9 for support. The Elite scores slightly higher still but is softer on the surface.
Which Emma mattress is best for side sleepers?#
The Emma Original for most side sleepers, because its memory foam layer lets the shoulder and hip sink in. Side sleepers over about 14 stone should look at the Elite, which combines a plush surface with the strongest support.
How long is the Emma trial?#
200 nights on every Original model, with a 10-year warranty. Our comparison of mattress trial periods shows how that compares with other brands.
