Who the Comfort CoolMax Intelligent suits
This is the mattress to buy if you sleep hot, want an all-foam bed, and need it to work as your everyday mattress rather than a spare-room compromise. It pairs the CoolMax cover from the cheaper Core CoolMax with a 20cm build and a better supportive foam layer, and that combination is what lifts it from a niche budget option to a genuine primary mattress.
It suits warm bedrooms, warm sleepers, and anyone who has previously found memory foam unbearable in summer. It is not the answer if you sleep hot enough that you regularly wake up damp – at that point you need airflow inside the mattress, which means the sprung LuxeTherm Hybrid or the Emma Luxe Cooling.
Construction and materials
Twenty centimetres: CoolMax cover, memory foam comfort layer, supportive foam base. The CoolMax fabric wicks moisture and increases evaporation at the surface, and the additional 5cm of depth over the Core version is what gives the mattress its support credentials.
The "Intelligent" in the name refers to the pairing of a temperature-regulating cover with a foam stack tuned to work with it rather than against it. In practice, the meaningful upgrades over the Core model are depth and foam grade.
Comfort and support
We score it 8.6 for comfort and 8.4 for support – a clear step up from the Core CoolMax's 8.3 and 8.0, and close to the best in the range. The medium feel works across sleeping positions: side sleepers get shoulder relief, back sleepers get a level pelvis, and there is enough depth that average-build adults are not compressing through to the base.

The best all-foam cooling performance in The Foam People range, and the reason to choose this over the Saffron Comfort Deep at £18 less. The CoolMax cover keeps the surface dry and moves heat away from the skin, which addresses the clammy sensation that wakes most hot sleepers.

Edge support and motion isolation
Edge support is respectable for all-foam at 20cm, though still short of any pocket-sprung mattress. Motion isolation is very good – memory foam absorbs partner movement almost completely, making this a quiet bed to share.

The 8.6 comfort score is close to the best here, the 20cm depth makes it a real main bed, and the CoolMax cover does something useful rather than decorative. It is a cover-level solution to a whole-mattress problem, so if you sleep very hot, save up for a hybrid instead – but for £192 this is well-judged buying.
