What arrives#
A roll-pack mattress arrives compressed, vacuum-sealed and rolled into a cylindrical cardboard box. A king-size mattress in a box is typically around 50 cm in diameter and 160 cm long — heavy (25–40 kg for a hybrid) but manageable by one person with a sack truck. It looks remarkably small for a full mattress.
Before you unbox#
- Move the box to the correct room first — the box is easier to move than a partially expanded mattress
- Have the bed base in position and the room arranged before opening
- Get scissors or a box cutter ready
- Having a second person makes the lifting significantly easier
Step-by-step unboxing#
- Open the cardboard box and slide the rolled mattress out
- Position it on your bed base in the centre, still rolled, aligned with the bed width
- Carefully cut the outer plastic film — the mattress will begin to unroll immediately. Cut shallowly to avoid cutting the mattress cover
- Unroll and lay flat on the base
- Cut the inner vacuum-seal film — air rushes in and expansion begins immediately
- Stand back and let it expand naturally
How long until it's ready?#
Most mattresses reach 80–90% of final size within 2–4 hours and are safe to sleep on after 4–6 hours. Full expansion to the stated depth typically takes 24–72 hours. The new foam smell (off-gassing) dissipates within 24–72 hours with adequate ventilation — open windows during and after unboxing.
If it doesn't expand properly#
If the mattress hasn't reached close to its stated depth after 72 hours in a room-temperature environment, contact customer service. Failure to expand is uncommon but can indicate a quality issue — most brands will replace a defective mattress promptly.
