After Black Friday, the next big UK mattress sales are on Boxing Day and in January. If you missed Black Friday, or want to see whether prices fall further, here is what to expect from each and how to tell a genuine deal from a permanent "sale".
The UK mattress sales calendar#
| Sale | When | What to expect |
|---|---|---|
| Black Friday | Late October to the end of November | Usually the deepest discounts of the year from bed-in-a-box brands |
| Cyber Monday | The Monday after Black Friday | Mostly Black Friday prices carried over, sometimes with an extra code |
| Boxing Day | 26 December, often starting before Christmas | Discounts close to Black Friday levels, and high street clearance |
| January sales | Late December to the end of January | End-of-line and clearance stock, plus "new year" offers online |
| Bank holiday sales | Easter, May and August | Shorter sales, usually a little smaller than Black Friday |
Is Boxing Day or Black Friday better for a mattress?#
For bed-in-a-box brands, Black Friday is usually slightly better or the same. Online mattress brands run some kind of discount most of the year, and their Black Friday offers are normally their biggest. Boxing Day tends to be better for traditional mattresses from high street retailers, which clear stock and discontinued models after Christmas.
If you see a price you are happy with on Black Friday, it is rarely worth waiting a month to save a few per cent more, especially with a long home trial that lets you return it.
What to look for in the January sales#
- End-of-line models. January is when outgoing models are cleared. They can be excellent value, but check the warranty and trial still apply.
- Showroom and ex-display mattresses. Sometimes heavily discounted, but rarely returnable.
- Price history. A "was" price is only meaningful if the mattress actually sold at it. Our guide to the best time to buy a mattress explains how to check.
How to judge a mattress sale price#
Ignore the percentage and compare the price you would pay with what similar mattresses cost. Our ranked lists show the scores and prices of every mattress we have tested:
- Best mattresses under £500
- Best mattresses under £1,000
- Best mattresses for back pain

Frequently asked questions#
Do mattresses go on sale on Boxing Day?#
Yes. Most UK mattress brands and retailers run a Boxing Day or Christmas sale, often starting before 25 December and running into January.
Are January mattress sales worth waiting for?#
If you missed Black Friday, yes. January discounts from online brands are usually close to Black Friday levels, and high street clearance can be better. If you already have a good Black Friday price, waiting rarely saves much.
When is the cheapest time to buy a mattress in the UK?#
Black Friday for most online brands, and Boxing Day to January for traditional retailers. Bank holiday weekends are the next best.
