About Simba Sleep#

Simba Sleep launched in the UK in 2016 and quickly became one of the country's most recognised mattress brands, largely through aggressive marketing and a distinctive product proposition: the patented Simba Hybrid with its layer of conical titanium micro-springs. The brand is headquartered in London and sells through its own website as well as John Lewis and other premium retailers.

Simba backs its products with a 200-night trial and a 10-year guarantee, matching the industry standard for premium online mattress brands.

Simba Hybrid: construction and materials#

The Simba Hybrid is a five-layer construction approximately 25 cm deep:

  • Top quilted cover: A soft, breathable knitted fabric with a quilted top feel — a tactile improvement over unquilted foam mattress covers.
  • Open-cell comfort foam (2.5 cm): Soft, breathable foam as the primary comfort layer.
  • Simbatex foam (2.5 cm): Simba's proprietary latex-like foam. Designed to be more responsive and breathable than standard memory foam.
  • Simba Aerocoil micro-springs (4 cm): The signature layer. 2,500 conical titanium springs per king size. These are not full-height pocket springs — they're shorter, denser micro-springs that act as a transition layer between the foam comfort layers and the spring support core, adding responsiveness and airflow.
  • Pocket spring base: A conventional pocket-spring support core beneath the micro-spring layer, providing the primary structural support.
  • Base foam: A firm foam base encasing the spring unit.

How firm is the Simba Hybrid?#

Simba rates the Hybrid as medium firmness. Most average-weight sleepers experience it as a genuine medium — more responsive and slightly firmer on the surface than the Emma Original, with less sink-in due to the micro-spring layer. This makes it a better fit for combination sleepers and back sleepers than all-foam alternatives.

Temperature performance#

The Simba Hybrid's dual spring system (micro-springs + pocket springs) creates significantly more airflow than an all-foam mattress. The Simbatex layer is also more breathable than standard memory foam. For average UK sleepers, the Simba Hybrid sleeps comfortably cool. It performs well for hot sleepers who want a foam-topped feel with better temperature regulation than all-foam.

Who the Simba Hybrid suits#

  • Best for: Back sleepers, combination sleepers, hot sleepers who want better temperature regulation, couples wanting good motion isolation with a responsive feel
  • Less suitable for: Those who prefer the deep contouring of memory foam, very light sleepers (under 9 stone / 57 kg) who may find the spring layers less responsive to their weight, budget buyers

Value for money#

The Simba Hybrid sits in the mid-to-premium price range. During sales (Black Friday, January), it's competitive with comparable hybrids. At full RRP it sits towards the higher end for a mid-tier hybrid, but the construction quality and the genuine innovation of the micro-spring system justify the premium for the right buyer.

Our verdict#

The Simba Hybrid is a well-engineered mattress that delivers on its premise: a genuinely responsive, temperature-regulating hybrid that bridges the gap between all-foam softness and traditional spring feel. It suits a slightly different sleeper profile than the Emma Original — better for those who want responsiveness and cooler sleep over deep contouring.
