Who the Luff Prestige Bamboo Hybrid suits

Luff's Prestige is a hybrid rather than a traditional sprung mattress: pocket springs for support, memory foam for contouring. It suits side and combination sleepers who like the hug of memory foam but want the bounce and airflow of springs, and anyone who wants a long warranty. If you prefer natural fillings and a firmer, more buoyant surface, a Millbrook such as the Serenity 4500 is the better match.

Construction

The Prestige has 2,000 individually pocketed springs beneath a layer of CloudTec cooling memory foam, finished with a Nanoweave bamboo cover. Bamboo fibre is breathable, moisture-wicking and naturally hypoallergenic. It is 26cm deep, non-flip, handmade to order in the UK, and available in medium or firm.

Comfort and support

2,000 springs is a generous count for a 26cm hybrid, and it gives solid, even support with less motion transfer than a lower spring count. The memory foam layer brings the slow, contouring feel that relieves pressure at the shoulder and hip. Medium suits most side and combination sleepers; firm is the choice for back sleepers and heavier sleepers.

Temperature

Cooling foam and a bamboo cover help, and the spring core breathes, so it sleeps cooler than an all-foam mattress. It will still feel warmer than the all-natural Millbrook mattresses, which have no foam at all.

Returns and warranty

Luff gives a 10-year warranty, which requires you to rotate the mattress once a month. Returns are 30 days, arranged through the manufacturer, but Laudsleep's policy excludes sale items, and at the time of writing the Prestige is on sale. There is no sleep trial.

Our verdict

A well-specified UK-made hybrid with a long warranty. At its sale price of £999 for a double it competes well with the bed-in-a-box hybrids we cover; at the full £1,299 it is harder to justify.
